Experiential Travel Programs at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston currently have 222 trip alumni. It is important for us to keep this community connected and nourish it into a thriving network that can help everyone within it. The potential of a strong network allows an opportunity for alumni to reflect on meaningful moments in their lives as well as strategize and collaborate for future success.
Over the next 52 weeks, we will highlight 52 alumni such as Diamond Green. Stay tuned and stay connected because as one of my mentors once told me, “Your network is your net worth.”
Diamond went on the Explore India expedition in 2013. She is currently a senior at Columbus State University in Georgia studying marketing. She is extremely active in her school’s community, working in the Dean’s office and the Office of Diversity Programs and Services. Diamond also recently attended leadership training through ILEAD and volunteers at WRBL, a local TV network.
Through the Office of Diversity Programs and Services, she worked on an event titled “Not Black Enough,” a photo exhibition for Black History Month, which documented the stories of people who do not feel accepted for who they are. She also attended a conference regarding diversity in the workplace at Auburn University, which opened her eyes to the professional norms in different countries. This directly links to her experience in India, where she went to Fidelity Investments and saw how workplace norms differed between India and the United States.
Diamond noted that she would not be where she is today without the Fish Family Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, saying that the trip to India inspired her to want to travel, be a leader and better herself. After graduating this December, she hopes to work in advertising and make a difference in her community.
When asked to give advice to teens in the Experiential Travel Programs, she said, “Don’t worry about taking pictures for your Instagram.” Just try to “be in the moment.”
