In the spring of 2019, Charlestown Boys & Girls Club hosted a Cherry Tree Dedication for a little over 40 people from the community including teens, staff, local advisory board members, donors, Japanese Women’s Leadership Initiative Fellows and representatives from the General Consul of Japan-Boston. The Fish Family Foundation planted five cherry trees (two more coming) in honor of its 15-year partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and the two organizations’ efforts to foster relationships between the young people of Greater Boston and Japan. Atsuko Fish talked to the teens about the importance of the friendship between Japan and the United States as well as the value of being a global citizen. A plaque was placed in honor of this special event and as a reminder to Charlestown Club teens about the opportunity to get involved in the Experiential Travel Program at their Club.
